So I’ve been taking Adderall XR for several months now, and I noticed that essentially as soon as I eat food, my meds basically wear off 30 min later. If I eat breakfast (either before or after taking my meds), it feels like my meds just never kick in at all.
I raised these concerns to my doctor, and he basically said he’s never heard of that, and that maybe I should see a dietician because something could be off with my metabolism.
I thought maybe it was just in my head, or that I have weird metabolism or something else was just “off” with me.
But today, I came across this article, which studied the effects of food on stimulant medications. Low and behold, it found that:
”Amphetamine concentrations were markedly lower when the subjects had eaten breakfast, resulting in lower early drug exposures”
Interestingly enough, it seems that food only influenced Adderall drug exposure, but not Concerta.
I just thought I should share, in case anyone else is struggling with the same thing.
EDIT: Forgot to mention this study was specifically looking at Adderall XR
